Big Ol' Website Update

One of those things I'm very proud of is that this site is built from scratch - no blogging software. I've had a crush on HTML coding since my AOL days (let's not think about how long ago that was), and it only got worse when I started learning how to use CSS and Javascript, PERL (for a while), and eventually PHP and MySQL and a smattering of jQuery.

It's kind of weird - even though I'm an artist at heart, I really enjoy the challenge of coding. I may not be the best at it, but darn it, it's fun! So while others may update the look and feel of their website without fanfare, I'm going to wave a banner and bask, briefly, in my accomplishment.

So, what's the update?

Well, mostly it's a look-and-feel thing. The two biggest changes are a move to black text on white, something I resisted for ages until realizing that resistance was genuinely futile. I finally had to admit it is simply just easier on the eyes and looks better overall.

The second big change is that the site should now look FAR better on mobile devices. The navigation buttons are nice and big, the text is readable, the images no longer shunt entire chunks of the website off the side of the screen... yeah, the old site was not very phone-friendly. It's a thing called "responsive design" - simply put, the website changes depending on the size of the screen, adapting itself to look better depending on the device you're using. Neat stuff.

That's about it, really. New, shiny look. Enjoy!
