The Wild Keeper
I'm noticing more and more costumers dressing as fauns at conventions and Renaissance festivals. These original character costumes are beautifully done, featuring goat-like ears and horns, and makeup reminiscent of a whitetail deer. The clothing and accessories run along the fantasy tribal lines, with fur, feathers, beads, wood and metal pieces, bones, and a variety of other found objects.
At a recent convention, Saboten Con 2014, there were several faun costumers, and I found myself fascinated by the idea. I sketched this forest lady while we were at the show, and colored the piece digitally once we were back home.
And here are some of the faun costumers who got me inspired to start this piece! The one on the right is my friend Christine, who had her makeup done as a demo at a booth. Since she was wearing her glasses, I said she looked rather scholarly, so we got this fun picture of her reading. I didn't catch everyone else's names... but you guys were awesome. :)
