Ashitare Cosplay - Grey Werewolf Costume

2000 was the only year I went to Anime Expo, which is kind of a shame, because it was quite fun. A couple of my friends were enamored of Fushigi Yuugi, and had decided to cosplay as characters from it, so I joined in.

Ashitare was one of the baddies, and a werewolf... sort of. Since I already had my gray wolf fursuit from a few years back, I decided to repurpose it. I used the paws from my white wolf costume, as they looked much better than the ones from the gray wolf, and matched the white fur highlights on the face.

The mask was the only part of this costume that was completely new, and it was an important milestone. It's the first mask I made using plastic mesh rather than cardboard. It was quite light and had reasonably good ventilation - about as good as youâ??re ever going to get in a fursuit, anyway!

The character's missing eye also proved to be an advantage for me. Ironically, I could see better through that scarred patch than I've ever been able to in a full mask.

This is also the first time I've been almost completely satisfied with how a mask turned out. It looks good from different angles, the jaw movement was smooth, and it was comfortable. What more could I ask for?
